My duties included the handing over and providing assistance to the new task manager who took over the projects of which I was task manager before my retirement. Emphasis was to be put on the preparation and appraisal of the fourth sewerage project for Tunisia, the supervision of the current Tunisia water supply and sewerage projects, the Teheran drainage project, the Sistan river flood protection project and the Teheran solid waste study.

 

July 1978 – May 1995          World Bank staff member.

I retired May 1995.                Last remuneration: $177,848 per year gross.

As task manager I was responsible for the full project cycle of waters supply and sanitation projects in many countries mainly in the Sahel and North Africa. My duties included negotiating with the local government in order to agree on specific development plans and the choice of projects to be proposed for Bank financing. Furthermore the preparation and appraisal of projects and the subsequent supervision and finally the preparation of completion reports. During project preparation I carried out general sector studies, technical audits of water supply and sewerage authorities, tariff studies and the execution of programs to implement proposed improvements. Also I supervised the procurement of goods and services by the borrowers. All these activities involved numerous 3 to 6 week missions where I led teams of multinational experts and consultants.

Apart from water supply and sanitation projects I have also worked on an earthquake rehabilitation project for Iran and flood protection projects for Iran and Tunisia.

 

1974 –1978                           Employed by the UNOTC and Swaziland Government.

As director of the Swaziland Water and Sewerage Board I split off the water supply and sewerage activities from the Ministry of public works and transferred them to a financially independent National Board. Subsequently I managed the Board for four years and carried out a World Bank financed development project. (Loan 1058-SW).

 

1970 – 1974                          Employed as Senior Lecturer by the post-graduate Institute of Environmental Science and Technology, Delft Netherlands.  I was course leader for the Sanitary and Hydrology courses and lectured sewage collection and lagoon treatment.

 

1956 – 1970                          I worked in the framework of the Netherlands bilateral technical assistance and held positions of Drainage Engineer in Iraq (1956-1960), Area water engineer in Nigeria (1960-1965), Chief of the Government Sewerage design office in Tunisia (1965-1968), and Director of Public Works in Aruba (NA) (1968-1970).
