PROFESSIONAL PROFILE
Ir. Johan Van Beuzekom
Mr. Van Beuzekom, a Dutch citizen, was born in 1930 in The Hague in the Netherlands. He graduated in 1956 at the Delft Technical University in Civil Engineering, where he specialized in hydraulics. Apart from Dutch, his mother tongue, he speaks English, French and German, and has some notions of Arabic, Farsi and Spanish.
From 1956 till 1970 he worked in the framework of the Netherlands bilateral technical assistance, and held the positions of Drainage Engineer in Iraq (1956 - 1960), Area Water Engineer in Nigeria (1960 - 1965), Head of the Government Sewerage Design Office in Tunisia (1965 - 1968), and Director, Public Works, in Aruba N.A. (1968 - 1970).
From 1970 to 1974 he was employed as Senior Lecturer by the Delft Post Graduate Institute for Environmental Science and Technology. He was course leader for the sanitary and hydrology courses and lectured sanitary engineering.
From 1974 until 1978, he was engaged by the UNOTC and worked as Director of the Swaziland Water and Sewerage Board. He set up and managed a national institution in charge of water supply and sewerage, in the framework of a World Bank project (Loan 1058-SW).
From 1978 to 1985 he worked in the World Bank as Sanitary Engineer in the EMENA Water Supply and Sewerage Division. He worked on water supply and sewerage projects for Tunisia, Morocco, Greece, Yemen, Syria and Yugoslavia.
From 1985 until 1988 he worked as Senior Sanitary Engineer in the West Africa Water Supply and Sewerage Division, and after the reorganization, from 1988 till 1992, as Principal Sanitary Engineer in the Infrastructure Division of the Sahelian Department of the Africa Region. He worked as Task Manager on water supply and sewerage projects in the following eight countries: Cape Verde, Senegal, Mauritania, the Gambia, Mail, Burkina Faso, Niger and Chad.
On the first of August 1992, when he reached his normal retirement age, he was granted a retirement extension, and joined the MN1IN division ( MN1PI after 1994) where he managed Water Supply and Sewerage projects in Tunisia and an Earthquake Rehabilitation project, the Sistan River Flood Protection project and the Tehran Drainage project in Iran.
From
1995 till 1997 he worked as a consultant for the Word Bank, mainly on the
completion of some of his projects and handing some other projects over to the
new task managers.
After
he retired from the World Bank, he took up his life long hobby, photography, and
followed some courses in conventional and digital photography at the New York
Institute of Photography. Presently he is President and newsletter editor of the
